Academic Success for All
In the KPDSB we are committed to improving student achievement by using targeted, evidence-based strategies. To do this, we are effectively and efficiently allocating appropriate resources, including professional learning to support these strategies, all the while ensuring proper monitoring and ongoing system-wide evaluation in order to meet identified needs.

Our goal is to close the achievement gap between our students and the province in mathematics. We implemented a targeted intervention strategy in focus schools that had large gaps by providing ongoing central support through our Student Achievement team. Teachers, along with their administrators, engage together in professional learning as well as receive individual support in the classroom. Learning focussed on good math instruction, using problem-solving, working with numbers, mastering math facts, applying an understanding of number properties and developing proficiency with operations, as well as good assessment strategies support student learning.
In Grade 3, our Board average of students achieving level three and four was 45%, compared to the province with 58%. In Grade 6, 42% of our students achieved level three and four compared to the province with 48%. Our Grade 6 students saw an increase of 17% from the previous year.
While it’s important to recognize that our focus on using evidence-based strategies are yielding success, we will continue to provide the necessary resources and supports along with the ongoing monitoring and system-wide evaluation to ensure overall student achievement.
