{"id":782,"date":"2021-12-06T15:29:14","date_gmt":"2021-12-06T21:29:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.kpdsb-dar.ca\/2021\/?p=782"},"modified":"2023-08-31T12:46:49","modified_gmt":"2023-08-31T17:46:49","slug":"secret-path-week-and-walk-for-wenjack-missing-pics-content","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.kpdsb-dar.ca\/2021\/blog\/secret-path-week-and-walk-for-wenjack-missing-pics-content\/","title":{"rendered":"Secret Path Week and Walk for Wenjack"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>We are proud to have all KPDSB schools registered as Downie Wenjack Legacy Schools.&nbsp; In fact, Crolancia Public School in Pickle Lake was the first legacy school in Canada!&nbsp; The Legacy Schools program is a national initiative to engage, empower and connect students and educators to further reconciliation through awareness, education and action (#reconciliACTION).&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Secret Path Week is a national movement commemorating the legacies of Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack, and takes place annually from October 17-22. This is a meaningful week as October 17th and 22nd respectively mark the dates that Gord Downie and Chanie Wenjack joined the spirit world.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>The Downie Wenjack Foundation calls on all people in Canada to use Secret Path Week to answer Gord Downie\u2019s call to action, to <\/em><strong><em>\u201c<\/em><\/strong><em>Do Something<\/em><strong><em>\u201d <\/em><\/strong><em>by creating a <\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/downiewenjack.ca\/our-work\/reconciliactions\/\"><strong><em>reconciliACTION<\/em><\/strong><\/a><em> and furthering the conversation about the history of residential schools.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>In additional to participating in a variety of classroom learning activities, KPDSB students and staff are encouraged to<\/em><a href=\"https:\/\/downiewenjack.ca\/our-work\/walk-for-wenjack\/\"><em> <\/em><em>Walk for Wenjack<\/em><\/a><em> during Secret Path Week to honour Chanie\u2019s legacy and raise awareness of the true history of residential schools.&nbsp;<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Several KPDSB schools participated in Walk for Wenjack activities including Lillian Berg Publc School in Vermilion Bay who\u2019s students attempted (and some completed!) a 30km walk from the McIntosh Indian Residential School site to the school.&nbsp;
