The work of supporting student mental health and well-being at the Keewatin-Patricia District School Board is guided by the Board’s annual mental health action plan and the Children’s Mental Health Ontario Right Time Right Care document.
The mental health action plan for 2023-2024 consisted of four main priorities related to mental health.
These priorities were identified as the following:
Increasing mental health literacy for students, including awareness of and understanding mental health. Increasing students’ awareness of how to access mental health services in schools and offered externally through community based mental health providers. This priority area has been connected to the climate survey data for 2021 and 2023 with a clear target of increasing the percentage of students in grades 3,6 and 9 who know how to access in-school mental health services.
Identify and address emerging and escalating student mental health and attendance concerns using the multi-tiered system of support and providing resources to the family unit when appropriate.
Ensuring staff feel equipped to intentionally and explicitly support student mental health and providing resources to support this important work
The final priority includes the development of a new three-year mental health and addictions strategic plan.
Our primary focus is continuing to ensure that students are connected to the right service at the right time and in the right location. Ensuring equity to access for service and culturally appropriate service and interventions whenever possible.
